Career Dreams

A sudden realization hit me this evening. I better write this down before I forget it..

I realized my ultimate dream career would be a journalist for something casual, like the 24 Hours newspaper. My current job has made me fall in love with words even more, but I know I lack the professionalism in putting them together eloquently.

I have always loved reading and writing from a young age, and still do. I remember I used to make dozens of little "books" in elementary school and fill them up with words as I dreamed of being an author when I grew up.

Now, I do not want to write books. I just want to write for a living. With my current editing experience, I wonder what kind of future I can go after. If I become rich, I might go for a journalism degree and learn to write better.

My job has two sides: the financial side and the language side. I certainly am more interested in the language side, especially because English is such a whimsical, fun language to play around with, at the same time being so expressive about emotions and feelings. Financial stuff? Not for me.

I find it almost repulsive to study how people are manipulating something that does not actually exist -- MONEY. People try so hard to earn more and more, but ultimately it's a never-ending ceiling they are trying to reach. Why not just sit back and watch the world go by, spending a little more time thinking about just, thoughts?

We live in a materialistic world. I have said this numerous times, I really do not need money to be happy. Just enough to live by, and derive happiness from simple things like viewing breathtaking scenery or feeling the ocean breeze by the beach.

Someday, I'd like to follow the journalist career path. :)

Another weird conversation

(Person A) and I were talking about this guy who might be interested in her. Major 180° change in topic as we switched to talking about (Person B).

(Person A): I introduced him to (Person B) -- she's desperate for a boyfriend...
Me: How desperate is she?
(Person A): She asks me and *other friend* to introduce guys to her...
Me: Okay, I should introduce *my boyfriend*'s friends to her then..
*Person A*: Oh really? Please do!! I have introduced all my good friends to her...

I show *my boyfriend* the above conversation.

*bf*: LOLOL! My friends are study dudes, they won't be compatible.. And they are shy too, not "on the bed" type...
Me: LOL! My sentiments exactly!

ROFL. I don't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for (Person B). FYI I have top-secret access to such information. :D

Words of Wisdom

(meaningful phrases from country songs)

Life is not about the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away...

I don't want a man I can live with; I want a man that I can't live without...

I believe in angels, 'cause my angels believe in me.

I wanna put you in a melody, so you'll be stuck in my head all day. If I could press play, rewind a couple million times; so let me put you in a song...

You make me smile like the sun, forget how to breathe.. Just the thought of you can drive me wild, oh you make me smile...

I'm gonna change your mind, I'm gonna make you love me...

One of our weird conversations

*after sharing a picture of our first meal cooked together*

N: Good memories~~
J: Yea, it makes me scared sometimes.. @_@
N: Why? Scared in what way?
J: I'm scared that if one event didn't happen, then nothing would be the way they are now. I wish there won't be a time machine in the future, so nobody messes with it.
N: That's okay, we control our future. Let's just hope nobody invents a time machine in our lifetime.
J: It's still theoretically impossible..
N: Good, they should just continue inventing stupid things, like the iPad.

ROFL

Depressed

UBC reflection to be writtened a little later, when I *cross my fingers* have a little more confidence, after what turned out to be a brutal battle I faced yesterday at my last exam.

Till then.

Exam Update!

I cannot believe I haven't written in here for like 3 weeks!! It's been too long man~~ What have I been busy with eh?? End of school, and then exams.. Seriously, what HAVE I been up to??? Alrighty, some updates..

Exams were scheduled to be 19, 20, 20, 28 April, but I talked to Italian prof and managed to get myself to write the exam on 23 April so it won't clash on same day as transport econ (which was quite a disaster on its own already, yesterday..).

So, exam season, the very last of my university undergraduate career.. I feel like I should be a little more nervous, panicking a little more.. I'm taking it slightly easy now.. MUST. NOT. BE. COMPLACENT!!!

Speaking of last, I cannot believe my 4 years of undergraduate have passed by just like that! The last time I blinked, I was still a teenager!! I promise a proper reflection after exams, a look at all the wonderful memories UBC created for me, all the people that made it so memorable, the years of my life that my dad always claims to be the best in one's lifetime.. Now I realize what he says is true!! Seriously, university is the best time of your life.. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!!!

Looking forward to summer, weather's turning nice and warm. Flowers are blooming, the smell of rain brings springtime here and shoos winter away! I have so many things I want to do in summer that I cannot even begin to list them all!! First summer in Vancouver, whooooo!!! Anticipating the hot summer days to come! :)

So much I want to say, but I'll stop here for now. Stay tuned for after-exam updates! I cannot believe I am graduating in A MONTH!!!!!! Cap and gown, here I come!!

Simple Things ♥ ~~

Have been so busy to blog!!! I have one ECON paper to research and write, one ECON assignment to pull my hair out on (from all the annoying equations), one Italian quiz coming up, one ENGL group presentation today (which I spent not much time but a lot of brainpower on), and one ENGL final project (paper-like..), and a LING final exam in 2 weeks!!! Suddenly crushed by an avalanche of schoolwork..

But nevertheless, I just want to say one thing today:

能够为男朋友准备爱心便当其实是一件非常幸福的事 :)

♥ 幸福就是那么的简单~~

Lots of work... I hope I can make it!!!

I wish I can watch all of Giada's episodes again..

And everyone says Italian is a romantic language.. Is it? I didn't know that, nor have I realized it yet.. Ask me again in a month or two probably??

Buona notte!

This year..

From my blog on 31 December 2008:

Resolutions? (I only mean them in a semi-joking way..)
1) Improve on my cooking.
2) Do well in school.
3) Eat healthier.
4) Watch more drama. *I say this every year and I end up watching less..*
5) Clean my room more.

Errrr. I officially declare that resolutions are LAME. Why did I even bother in the first place?

I think I did pretty well.. Drama trend is continuing.. Only watched one or two the whole year.. LOL.. In terms of cooking, eating, school, cleaning.. Not bad at all, I'll say!

Salt 'n' Pepper

I don't wanna name my dogs Basil and Cilantro anymore..

I wanna name them Salt 'n' Pepper.

Salt and pepper go so well together.. Oh well, maybe it might be hard for me to keep 2 dogs..

Maybe a pair of black and white hamsters.. That might work better ;)

Ok settled! I am gonna have one white and one black hamster...

Heavy rain

I like it when it rains heavily... More atmosphere... When the rain falls lightly, it feels like it's trying so hard to rain but it's not scucceeding.. Almost raining like a wuss, I'll say.

When it pours, the sound of the rain drowns out your thoughts, giving your mind a break momentarily... The sound of the water hitting your umbrella calms you down, just like the ocean..

Being under an umbrella in the heavy rain also makes me feel very fortunate.. Fortunate enough to have shelter over my head... That I have an umbrella to keep me dry.. Also makes me feel that my umbrella is very useful, when the heavy rain soaks it till it drips.. The light rain doesn't give the umbrella this sense of satisfaction...

Even without an umbrella, light drizzles make you wet and cold but you are unlikely to do anything but let your clothes dry by themselves. With a good downpour, it soaks into your clothes right down to your insides and you will HAVE to take a shower, which you then change into warm clean clothes which always makes one feel warm and fuzzy.

If you are staying inside.. You see the rain hitting the window while you are safe and dry inside.. It makes you want to snuggle up with someone.. Sit by the fire with a mug of hot chocolate...

Rain is annoying, but a good heavy downpour can do wonders for your body and soul every once in a while. Especially with all this rain we get in Vancouver, it's about time we start thinking more positively about what nature is giving us...

Observation over the last couple months:

Steps of Romance

In Asia:

Falling in Love --> Relationship --> Sex

In North America:

Sex --> Relationship --> Falling in Love

I'm not sure which one is better...

Great horoscope advice from the paper today:

"Why would you want your life to look like others? Avoid jealousy today."

Hehe.
